This is the first interview part of cycle ‘Statues’ Rumours’ launched in March 2021. A new initiative part of the research project ‘Estatuas que hablan,’ aiming to collect and preserve the Italian Talking Statues’ influence on contemporary artists while promoting discussions around memorials, public sculptures, text and images, or art activism.
The first interview with Andrew Cornell Robinson can be seen here. Andrew Cornell Robinson is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York. In this interview, he takes us to his encounter with Pasquino and the Talking Statues in Rome while comparing them with similar interactions around public statues occurring in New York City. The agency of sculptures led him to introduce new narratives into his artworks, helping us to reflect on public memorials, power, hospitality, or the linkage between texts and images. During this fascinating conversation, we will discover the ideas behind his art pieces ‘Jamón Jamón’, ‘The Congress of Wits’, or ‘Pasquino.’

Este es un espacio dedicado a la mirada de artistas nacionales e internacionales sobre las Estatuas Parlantes italianas. Un fenómeno interdisciplinar que da lugar a un debate entre espacio público, historia, escultura, comunicación, política, antropología, sociedad y arte.
Miradas actuales sobre las Estatuas Parlantes italianas que pretende dar voz a través de entrevistas, a creadores que han realizado trabajos relacionados con estas esculturas públicas que, durante el Renacimiento, fueron una importante herramienta de libertad de expresión, y que son catalizadores de debates en la sociedad actual.
Una comunicación que aún sigue viva en Roma con el uso continuado de estas esculturas romanas que siguen dando mucho que hablar, también desde el lenguaje artístico.
